Hypromellose 0.3 % 10ml eye drops on a NHS prescription as of June 2022

Q. I have noticed that Hypromellose 0.3 % 10ml eye drops have been deleted from part VIIIA of the Drug Tariff, am I still ok to dispense the item  on a NHS prescription?

A.Yes the licensed generic product of that strength has been deleted by the manufacturer and removed from part VIIIA of the June 2022 Drug Tariff .   Hypromellose 0.3% 10ml eye drops are available as a medical device  and the following are listed in the appliance section (Part IXA) of the England and Wales Drug Tariff which means that only these  can be dispensed against a prescription for reimbursement:

Against a generically written script for Hypromellose 0.3% Eye Drops only the brands listed above can be dispensed. The brand given must be endorsed on the script otherwise the script will be returned from the  relevant pricing authority for clarification. Any other brand dispensed that is not listed in the Drug Tariff would be disallowed.
