Epanutin (phenytoin) 30mg/5ml Oral Suspension - Supply Disruption June 2019

  • Northern Ireland

Pfizer have confirmed that they will be out of stock of Epanutin (phenytoin) 30mg/5ml oral suspension from week commencing June 10th 2019, further deliveries are anticipated at the end of July although the exact dates have not been confirmed.

The shortage is a consequence of global manufacturing delays. As Pfizer is the sole licensed UK supplier of phenytoin 30mg/5ml suspension this stock shortage is anticipated to result in supply issues to patients. To pre-empt this potential shortage the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has issued advice to healthcare professionals and the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) have given Pfizer permission to import an unlicensed product Dilantin 30mg/5ml oral suspension from Canada to alleviate the stock issues.
