SSP020 Ovestin 1mg Cream

The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has issued a Serious Shortage Protocol (SSP) for Ovestin 1mg Cream in response to a significant ongoing supply disruption.

This SSP will enable community pharmacists in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland to supply patients with a reduced quantity as per the document below.

It allows no more than three months’ supply to be supplied against prescriptions for Ovestin 1mg Cream (both branded and generically written).

In accordance with an SSP for a reduced quantity, if the patient normally pays for their prescriptions, no prescription charge is payable for the reduced quantity supply. This only applies to prescriptions that are for more than three months’ supply, and prescriptions for an amount less than or equivalent to three months’ supply should be dispensed as usual and if the patient pays for their prescriptions, the usual patient charges will still apply.

SSP020 for Ovestin 1mg Cream will be in operation from Friday 29th April 2022 until Friday 29th July 2022.

Please note that the SSP may be amended or revoked at any time, so contractors must ensure that the SSP is still valid before each supply.
