COVID-19 Vaccination Programme

All information on the Primary Care COVID-19 Immunisation Service (PPCIS) in Wales can be found on the community pharmacy Wales website: http://www.cpwales.org.uk/The-Health-Landscape/Coronavirus-Information-Updates/CPW-Communications/Primary-Care-COVID-19-Immunisation-Service-(1).aspx

Here you will find links to specific information from each participating health board, some of whom have already requested expressions of interest from community pharmacies wishing to take part in the programme.

The accreditation pathway for the PCCIS service is now available on the NESA Hub.

HEIW have created a simple flowchart to explain the accreditation pathway that can be viewed here

This is, of course, an unprecedented vaccination programme which requires flexible planning, maximum efficiency and close working between the Area Teams and yourselves. The area plans include the utilisation of both AstraZeneca and Pfizer vaccines and are dependent on:

  • The amount of vaccines available each week
  • Capacity of the mass vaccinations centres (including commissioning further local vaccination centres if required)
  • Capacity of all of our primary care contractors
  • Local population profiles
  • Local geography
  • Efficiency of delivery and avoidance of waste

It is the health boards’ intention to involve every interested pharmacy in the programme when the above factors make this practical.

Owing to the need to be flexible and responsive to changes and disruptions to the programme, it is possible that the health board may approach to you be commissioned to provide this service at relatively short notice. Therefore, please be as prepared as you can to enable you to provide the service – details on training and other requirements are available here: http://www.cpwales.org.uk/The-Health-Landscape/Coronavirus-Information-Updates/CPW-Communications/Primary-Care-COVID-19-Immunisation-Service-(1).aspx
