How do I apply for the Bursary Scheme?
1. Find the course you want to do
2. Fill in the online application form
3. Gain up to 90% of the funding for your chosen course
You can download a sample application form to help you.
What if my course runs longer than a year?
- If your course is invoiced annually you will have to submit a new application each year. Any award made will be based on one year's cost at a time.
- If your course requires complete payment upfront, you will only be required to complete one application.
What courses are not included?
The bursary will not be available to cover statutory programmes or those which employees would be expected to undertake as part of their roles within a pharmacy, eg:
- Medicines Counter Assistant programme
- Pre-registration programme
- Courses for dispensing assistants and pharmacy technicians
The only professional pharmacy qualifications that attract bursary funding are the ACT (Accredited Checking Technician programme) or higher. If you have any questions contact Customer Services.
Any other limitations?
Flu Training - due to the large number of bursary applications we receive for flu training, the maximum percentage that can be awarded (including refreshers) is capped at 20% of the cost. Funding is only available for the first 50 applicants during 2012.
What training has bursary has supported so far?

- Computer driving licence
- Diploma in clinical pharmacy
- Emergency first aid at work
- Homeopathy
- Pharmacy prescribing
- Sage accounting
- Smoking cessation
- Total quality management

How will my application be judged?
The training panel will look at each case on its merits according to the following criteria:
- How the development need was identified
- Relevance to both the role and business
- How the learning will be applied to the business
- What value the development activity will add to the business
When will my application be judged?
Four application deadlines are set each year. Upon each deadline, the applications that have been received will be judged by the training panel. Applications received after the deadline will be moved to the next deadline period.
How will I know the outcome of my application?
If your application for a bursary is successful you will be notified in writing within six weeks of the application deadline.
Unsuccessful applicants will be advised why they have not secured funding so that they can reapply if necessary.
Can I apply more than once?
Yes. You can apply as many times as you wish.
Can I apply retrospectively?
No. Part of the judging criteria is the way in which a training need was identified and therefore retrospective applications would not meet this judging criterion. If you have any queries please contact the Learning and Development Department on 0800 783 5709.
Can I include the costs of travelling, child care or a locum?
No. Only the actual programme costs are included in the bursary scheme. Any expenses incurred should be covered by the individual or organisation.
How are funds allocated?
Each quarter an amount of money will be set aside for the bursary programme.
Applications are scored on the set criteria and funds allocated accordingly at the discretion of the training panel.
If successful an application could attract up to 90% of the programme costs.
How will I receive my funding?
The bursary scheme will reimburse you the agreed amount upon the completion and return of the documents requested with the confirmation letter along with an invoice or receipt from the training provider.
Are awards dependant on using a specific wholesaler or supplier?
No. When applications are received the Numark Learning & Development team will collate all of the applications onto a summary sheet for each bursary period. All personal data is removed, so when the Training Panel receive the applications for scoring they do not know who the applicant or member pharmacy is, and therefore have no knowledge of which suppliers or wholesalers are used. The enables the panel to score each application on it's merits ensuring a fair and equitable allocation of funds.
