Appliance Use Reviews

  • England

Offer Appliance Use Reviews (AURs) to patients as part of Stoma and Incontinence Services.

AURs can be carried out by a pharmacist or specialist nurse in the pharmacy or within the patient's home.

The aim is to improve the patient's knowledge and use of a specified appliance by establishing the way a patient is using an appliance and resolving poor or ineffective use.

Reimbursement

£27 if conducted within the pharmacy.

£54 if conducted in the patient's home.

Guidance

  • AURs can be performed in relation to Part 9 A (qualifying items only), B and C prescription items.
  • It must be done in a private consultation area, away from the general public, where the pharmacist and patient cannot be heard when talking at a normal volume.
  • You will need to make a one off declaration via the NHS BSA website.
  • You will need to notify your PCT that you intend to provide this service.
  • Should you wish to cease providing this service you must give 3 months notice.
  • The maximum number is 1 per 35 specified appliances dispensed each year.
