Clinical Governance

PSNC and NHS Employers have now released further guidance on the recent changes and additions to Clinical Governance requirements. Contractors have until 1st July 2012 to ensure they are compliant. Download the guidance from the PSNC website External website link

In August 2011 the PSNC announced seven amendments or additions to the clinical governance regulations in accordance with the community pharmacy contractual framework.

The aim is to strengthen and build upon the existing regime and pharmacists will be supported by examples of best practice and resources provided by PSNC.

It is recognised that these changes may take time to implement so a six month transitional period has been approved.

The updated regulations came into effect on the 1st October 2011 and contractors have been given until 1st April 2012 to implement them.

Details of the clinical governance regulations already in place since 2005 can be found in the service specification for essential service 8 which can be downloaded from the PSNC website.

Contractors should also make themselves familiar with the other relevant resources available at the same location.

The following documents will be available shortly from the PSNC:

  • The updated Regulations
  • Comprehensive guidance about the changes for contractors and commissioners, including examples of best practice and signposting to other relevant resources.

We have produced a guide to describe the changes and highlight the actions you can take to ensure you are compliant.
